Help Fight Spam Aggressively

31 August 2005 @ 8:47am

Taken from Developer Shed Weekly News for 2005-08-16

Blue Security claims their aggressive new model for fighting spam is very effective. Recently, they posted a report that spammers have been shutting down their domain names in response to the Blue Frog community.

How does it work? Basically, you register your email accounts on their Do-Not-Intrude list, and install a little program. Spammers who send illegal spam to list members are kindly asked to stop spamming. If they don’t stop, all the members who are online contribute (automatically via the program they installed) to sending massive amounts of complaints to the spammer’s site. This can slow down orders on the site and make it unprofitable. The service is surrounded by a lot of ethical and legal questions, especially since it can be similar to a DDoS attack if complaints are send at a rapid rate.

Grand Theft Auto Kills Three, Steals Car

So I get into work and open up my email like every other day. I have some daily and weekly newsletters that I browse through and this article caught my eye.

Grand Theft Auto Kills Three, Steals Car

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with people when they blame GTA for this? I agree 100% with the author of this article … “like blaming a sneeze for the cold.”

Uhh ya, I want one. Each key on the keyboard is it’s own screen that displays what you want. It can display the standard keyboard, or the keys can show commands for your current application like Quake or Photoshop.

Google Talk & Google Desktop

Google Talk - http://talk.google.com
Late last night Google released their instant messaging program, Google Talk. It uses your Gmail account to login. So far it looks great. Since it is only a BETA version I’m sure it will have some new features added to it. If you don’t have a Gmail account yet, let me know and I will send you an invite. Sign up and start using Gmail and Google Talk.

Google Desktop - http://desktop.google.com
On Monday Google released Google Desktop 2. This program is pretty sweet. You can have the news, your email, and the weather on your desktop at all times. For those who want, Google provides a SDK so you can create your own plug-in’s for it. I like this program, rather than going to multiple pages to check things out I can quickly look over at my Google Desktop and get all the information I need.

So to sum it up … go get a Gmail account, then download Google Talk and Google Desktop 2. Do it, ok … just do it.
